Its chemical formula, CaC2 ( Calcium Carbide ), is obtained by melting lime and coal in electric arc furnaces at approximately 2200 degrees. It is a chemical substance that produces acetylene gas when it reacts with water.
CaC2 Usage Areas
- When CaC2 is burned with oxygen, high heat is generated. This high heat is used in welding processes.
- It is used in melting of scrap metal into liquid iron, in steel production, in the processes of yellowing and ripening of fruits such as bananas, oranges and tangerines.
